Centre Pompidou acquires work by Jacqueline de Jong

Pippy Houldsworth Gallery is delighted to announce the acquisition by Centre Pompidou, Paris, of Jacqueline de Jong's important early painting Le blouson très noir et ses femmes (1964). Le blouson très noir et ses femmes is one of the first works from the artist's series of 'Suicidal Paintings' notable for their carnivalesque compositions and moribund iconography. The painting was part of de Jong's survey exhibition, The Ultimate Kiss, at Wiels, Brussels; Mostyn, Wales; and Kunstmuseum Ravensburg, and was most recently on view at Art Basel 2023 in the gallery's solo presentation of Jacqueline de Jong works from the 1960s.

From June to July 2024, Pippy Houldsworth Gallery will present a solo exhibition of new works by de Jong in dialogue with a group of works from the 1960s, giving insight into how her practice has returned to the vigorous mark making and dynamic energy of the early years. Opening in December 2024, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will present de Jong's first US solo institutional exhibition, Vicious Circles, curated by Ariella Wolens.
