Zarouhie Abdalian’s multidisciplinary practice is rooted in anthropological research. Often drawing on architectural and outdoor spaces, the artist creates site-responsive installations that pursue a confrontation of failing political systems and the violation of human rights. Concerned with the psychological and social impact of modern industrial capitalism, Abdalian imbues her works with a sense of urgency and precariousness. Through subtle interventions of light, sound and visual imagery, she materialises histories in objects and sites. Bells are a recurring motif within Abdalian’s oeuvre as she seeks to negotiate the politics of time within contentious spaces.
