Curated by Michael Vetter, PhD, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at Newfields, the exhibiton runs through till 28 June 2026.
The exhibition presents thirteen works from the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields to highlight their expanding and globally relevant contemporary art collection. Mathenge's painting was purchased by the museum following its presentation at Expo Chicago with Pippy Houldsworth Gallery in 2025.
Wangari Mathenge (b. 1973, Nairobi, Kenya) lives and works between Chicago, IL, and Nairobi, Kenya. She holds degrees from Howard University and Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago, IL. In October 2023, Mathenge presented her second solo exhibition with Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, A Day of Rest.
