Jadé Fadojutimi

Walker Art Center acquires work

Pippy Houldsworth Gallery is delighted to announce that Jadé Fadojutimi’s Transmission (2020) has been acquired by the Visual Arts Permanent Collection of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.

Transmission belongs to a body of work that has emerged in response to the troubling events of 2020. The painting initiates an existential interrogation, reflecting on the profound tension between self-determination and the identities imposed by others. Incorporating the new medium of oil sticks into the work has enabled the artist to question her place in the world through greater experimentation with palette, composition, depth, and mark-making.

Jadé Fadojutimi (b.1993) holds a BA from The Slade School of Fine Art, London (2015) and an MA from the Royal College of Art, London (2017). Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London presented the artist’s first solo exhibition (2017-18). Her first one-person institutional show at PEER UK, London followed in 2019. Jesture, Fadojutimi’s second exhibition at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, is currently on show until 31 October 2020. In addition to the Walker Art Center, collections include Tate, London; ICA Miami; Joyner/Giuffrida Collection, San Francisco; Rachofsky Collection, Dallas (promised to Dallas Museum of Art); Sammlung Scharpff, Bonn, and the Hort Family Collection, New York. The artist lives and works in London.

Fadojutimi has been selected to participate in the Liverpool Biennial 2021. Upcoming solo museum exhibitions include The Hepworth Wakefield, UK and ICA Miami, FL, both scheduled to open November 2021.

A new catalogue, Jadé Fadojutimi, Jesture, featuring an essay by Jennifer Higgie, will be published by Pippy Houldsworth Gallery following the exhibition.
