In Zoë's words -
"In this work the words are broken up, scattered across the textile shapes, but connected as if by some kind of invisible thread. I believe that so often with experiences of violence in the home it is after the fact that we try to piece together what happened, we speak back to ourselves or even to the aggressor what our experience was- often to accusations that we are over inflating the truth. But when does a violent act start and end? I’ve realised upon reflection that there exists this split-second switch, when you see or feel a man’s rage morph into a physical manifestation- and when I’ve seen that: from my highchair, the school playground, in front of a bouncer outside a club or even in my own bathroom, I am instantly confronted by the reality of my body- that sadly I will not “win” this one.

And yet it is the reality of our (female identified) forms that are the seed of so much celebration! Deservedly so. This work uses beauty and colour and aesthetic yumminess to tell the complexities of our experiences in these bodies of ours. And I used both machine and hand embroidery to bring together the masculine and the feminine that exists at all times within."
