With two small ‘eyeballs’ glancing outwards, Circle Eye playfully side-steps the viewer’s scrutiny. Hesich presents a composition of seeming symmetry, subtly undermined through an awareness of gradual motion and growth. Complicating perception of surface and depth, the artist carves out space with hard architectural forms that appear to dissolve into blue-grey smoke. This fluctuation of weight is reflected in a palette that moves between opaque primary colours and luminous fleshy tones. Presenting an indeterminate, in-between space, Circle Eye prompts an active, imaginative response.
